Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome aboard in Kaimana
Your expedition begins in the remote town of Kaimana, gateway to Triton Bay. Our crew will meet you at the airport or your hotel and transfer you to Calico Jack, where the adventure begins.
After settling into your cabin and meeting your fellow guests, we’ll conduct a full boat orientation and safety briefing before setting sail into the rich waters of Triton Bay. Depending on arrival times and conditions, we may begin the trip with a gentle check dive nearby to ensure everyone is comfortable in the water.
That evening we enjoy our first dinner together on deck as the boat anchors beneath the rainforest-covered islands of West Papua.
Day 2
Triton Bay — Soft coral gardens & whale sharks
We wake to the calm waters of Triton Bay, one of the least explored diving regions in Indonesia.
The reefs here are famous for their extraordinary soft coral growth, with colourful bommies rising from sandy slopes and dense schools of reef fish moving through the currents. Expect encounters with sweetlips, snapper, trevallies and reef sharks among forests of soft corals and gorgonians.
Later in the day we may visit the local bagan fishing platforms, where whale sharks are often seen feeding in the early morning light.
Between dives we explore the maze of limestone islands by kayak or tender.
Day 3
Triton Bay lagoons & hidden reefs
Today we continue exploring the remote reefs of Triton Bay.
These dive sites combine shallow coral gardens, dramatic rock formations and deeper sandy slopes full of macro life. Pygmy seahorses, frogfish, nudibranchs and unusual crustaceans are often found hiding among the corals.
At dawn we may take a dinghy excursion into Triton Bay’s quiet lagoons, drifting through a labyrinth of rainforest-covered islets alive with birdsong.
Later in the afternoon we visit a coastal cliff displaying ancient rock art, thought to be thousands of years old.
Day 4
Momon — waterfalls & rainforest coastlines
Today we reach the wild coastline of Momon, where steep jungle mountains plunge directly into the sea.
Our dives here are typically on offshore seamounts where strong currents attract large schools of jacks, barracuda and trevallies, along with napoleon wrasse and reef sharks.
In the afternoon we visit a spectacular jungle waterfall flowing directly into the sea — a perfect place to swim and cool off after diving.
At sunset thousands of fruit bats emerge from nearby islands, filling the sky as they begin their nightly flight across the forest.
Day 5
Pulau Pisang — seamounts and schooling fish
As we continue our journey toward Raja Ampat we dive the remote reefs of Pulau Pisang, an isolated group of islands surrounded by deep water.
These dive sites often feature large schools of surgeonfish, trevallies and barracuda, with occasional manta rays cruising through the blue.
The surrounding lagoons are perfect for a relaxed afternoon paddle by kayak or SUP, exploring hidden beaches and quiet coves.
That evening we begin our overnight crossing toward Misool, the southern jewel of Raja Ampat.
Day 6
Misool — the heart of Raja Ampat
We arrive in Misool, one of the most spectacular dive regions on Earth.
The underwater landscape is dominated by dramatic ridges and pinnacles covered in soft corals, sea fans and dense reef fish. Schools of fusiliers swirl above the reefs while predators — tuna, trevallies and barracuda — patrol the currents.
Expect encounters with wobbegong sharks, reef sharks, napoleon wrasse and bumphead parrotfish.
This evening we may conduct a night dive, where walking sharks and fascinating macro life emerge.
Day 7
Boo Islands — coral windows and manta cleaning stations
Today we explore the iconic reefs of the Boo Islands, famous for their unique limestone formations and coral-covered pinnacles.
Dive sites here often feature spectacular “coral windows” — natural arches in the reef framed by colourful soft corals.
Currents bring in large schools of fish and sometimes oceanic manta rays, which visit cleaning stations around the reefs.
Between dives we may step ashore to explore secluded beaches and lagoons surrounded by towering limestone cliffs.
Day 8
Wayilbatan — reefs alive with fish
The islands of Wayilbatan offer some of the most vibrant reefs in southern Raja Ampat.
Steep coral slopes and submerged pinnacles are home to huge schools of batfish, trevallies, barracuda and sweetlips. Pygmy seahorses and other macro subjects hide among colourful sea fans.
In the afternoon we often explore the surrounding lagoons by kayak or tender — a peaceful contrast to the action beneath the waves.
Day 9
Fiabacet — legendary Raja Ampat diving
Few dive sites in Raja Ampat are as famous as Fiabacet.
A submerged ridge connects several small islands here, creating a chain of spectacular dive sites filled with marine life. Massive schools of fusiliers attract predators such as tuna and giant trevallies, while reef sharks cruise along the current-swept slopes.
Macro lovers will also find plenty to discover, from nudibranchs to pygmy seahorses.
Day 10
Daram Islands — coral gardens & pristine reefs
The remote Daram Islands are known for their pristine coral reefs and remarkable biodiversity.
Massive sea fans, colourful soft corals and large sponges create an underwater landscape that feels almost untouched. Expect encounters with reef sharks, turtles and huge schools of reef fish.
This is also one of the best places in the region for wide-angle photography.
Day 11
Final dives in Misool
Our final full day of diving gives us one last chance to explore Misool’s incredible reefs.
We enjoy two or three final dives, revisiting favourite sites or exploring new ones depending on conditions.
In the afternoon we begin the overnight cruise toward Sorong, celebrating the journey with a farewell dinner onboard.
Day 12
Disembarkation in Sorong
We arrive in Sorong early in the morning.
After breakfast and final farewells with the crew, guests are transferred to the airport or their hotel — ending an unforgettable expedition across two of the most spectacular marine regions on Earth.
Getting there
Trip Start
Kaimana, West Papua, Indonesia
Your expedition begins in Kaimana, a remote coastal town on the southern edge of West Papua and the gateway to Triton Bay.
Guests should plan to arrive at Kaimana Airport (KNG) on the morning of Day 1. Our team will meet you at the airport or your hotel and transfer you directly to the boat for embarkation.
Boarding takes place before 12:00 noon, after which we begin the voyage north toward Triton Bay and Raja Ampat.
Trip End
Sorong, West Papua, Indonesia
The expedition concludes in Sorong, the main gateway to Raja Ampat.
We typically arrive early in the morning on the final day. After breakfast and farewells with the crew, guests are transferred to Sorong Airport (SOQ) or to a nearby hotel.
We recommend booking afternoon flights or later from Sorong to allow for a relaxed disembarkation and airport transfer.
Flights & Travel Routes
Most international travellers reach the region via Jakarta, Bali, or Singapore, connecting onward to Sorong.
For this expedition, guests will typically fly:
International → Jakarta or Bali → Sorong → Kaimana
The final domestic flight from Sorong to Kaimana is short (around 1 hour) and offers spectacular views of Papua’s coastline and islands.
Because flight schedules can change frequently in this region, we recommend arriving in Sorong one day before the trip departure.
Transfers
All guests receive complimentary airport transfers on the first and final day of the expedition.
Our crew will meet you at the airport with a Calico Jack sign and assist with luggage before transferring you to the boat.
Travel Assistance
Indonesia’s domestic flight schedules can occasionally change, especially in remote regions.
If you need assistance planning your flights or pre-trip accommodation, our team is happy to help coordinate your travel plans.

Trusted by Divers Worldwide
Calico Jack Charters is consistently rated among the top liveaboards in Indonesia, with excellent guest reviews and many returning divers joining multiple expeditions.

Prepared for Your Expedition
Before departure you’ll receive a complete trip preparation guide covering travel logistics, packing advice, dive equipment recommendations, and destination information.
This is not a loop route, it’s a true expedition.
Sailing from Kaimana to Sorong, this 11-night voyage aboard Calico Jack traces a rarely explored path through Indonesia’s eastern frontier, connecting the raw, little-visited reefs of Triton Bay with the world-famous ecosystems of Raja Ampat.
The journey begins in Triton Bay, a region still largely untouched by mass tourism. Here, nutrient-rich waters feed sprawling soft-coral gardens, dramatic reef structures, and dense marine life. It’s the kind of place where dives feel exploratory, quiet, uncrowded, and deeply immersive.
As the expedition progresses north, the seascape gradually transforms. Reefs become brighter, fish life thickens, and the itinerary opens into the iconic waters of Raja Ampat , home to manta rays, kaleidoscopic coral reefs, and some of the highest marine biodiversity on the planet.
With up to 33 dives planned across the trip, days fall into a familiar and satisfying rhythm: early morning dives, relaxed surface intervals, afternoon explorations, and the occasional night dive when conditions allow. Between dives, guests can kayak through hidden lagoons, paddle calm bays on SUP boards, or simply unwind on deck as the islands drift past.
As with all Calico Jack expeditions, the route remains flexible. Dive sites and daily plans are shaped by weather, visibility, and guest experience allowing the crew to put you in the best possible water, every single day.
This is a journey for divers who want more than just great dives. It’s for those who want to travel through Indonesia’s wildest regions, not just visit them.
