You’ve confirmed the booking for your liveaboard cruise, now all you need is to pack. Packing shouldn’t be that hard, right? Well if you don’t know precisely what to pack, or how to pack, it can be easier said than done!

To help you get started with your packing, we’ve compiled a list of essential things to bring on your liveaboard cruise.

packing for liveaboard

Proper wet suit

If you’re bringing your own wet suit, make sure you bring the appropriate thickness. The last thing you want is not being able to dive because you’re too cold in the water and have brought the incorrect wetsuit. If in doubt, always opt for a thicker suit so you don’t get cold during dives.

Swimsuits

If your luggage allows, be sure to bring extra swim suits; 3 to 5 swim suits should suffice – you’re going to be surrounded by water after all. Hang them on the top deck to dry when not in use, so they’ll be ready for your next swim.

Sea sickness medication

If you know you’re prone to sea sickness, this should be a priority for your packing. If you’re not, bring some medication anyway, just in case your diving buddy isn’t feeling too well. You’ll be far from any pharmacy store when you’re out on the ocean, and these can be a lifesaver.

Camera gear

Double check, and triple check your camera lenses, batteries and other accessories. The last thing you want is a battery without a charger, or worse, a camera without a memory card. Make sure you label them so they can be identified easily, and it also helps to make a dedicated checklist for all your camera gear.

Reef-safe sunscreen

Another important item to pack is a solid sunscreen – one that’s reef-friendly and water resistant. It’s important to protect yourself from harmful UV rays, but protecting the corals you’re visiting is just as important. Avoid sunscreens that have oxybenzone in their list of ingredients, as they can trigger coral bleaching.

To conclude, make sure you keep a master checklist of the things you pack. This helps to keep track of your belongings and also prevents things from going missing, as you’ll have a reference of your items.
