Itinerary

Day 1

Embarkation in Sorong | Crossing to Misool

Your expedition begins in Sorong, the gateway to Raja Ampat. Our team will meet you at the airport or your hotel and transfer you to the harbour where the crew of Calico Jack welcomes you onboard.

After settling into your cabins, we conduct a short safety briefing and introduction to life onboard before departing around midday. As the vessel sails south through the Sele Strait, you’ll have time to assemble dive gear, prepare cameras and relax on deck while the remote islands of Raja Ampat slowly appear on the horizon.

During the evening we begin our overnight cruise toward Misool, the southern jewel of the Raja Ampat archipelago.

Day 2

Misool | Balbulol Reefs

We wake surrounded by the spectacular limestone islands of Misool, famous for its vertical walls, colourful soft corals and incredible fish life.

Today’s dives explore reefs around Balbulol, including sites such as No Contest, Pet Rock and Love Potion. These pinnacles attract large schools of snapper, fusiliers and bumphead parrotfish, while barracuda and trevallies patrol the blue.

In the afternoon we explore hidden lagoons by dinghy or kayak, navigating through narrow passages between towering karst islands. As sunset approaches, the forested cliffs echo with the calls of Palm Cockatoos returning to their roosts.

Day 3

Daram Islands | Soft Coral Gardens

Today we dive the legendary reefs of the Daram Islands, among the most colourful dive sites in Raja Ampat.

Sites such as Candy Store, Andiamo and Warna Berwarna are famous for their dramatic topography and dense soft coral growth. Giant sea fans, sponges and tunicates cover the reefs, while schools of fusiliers swirl through the currents and reef sharks cruise along the slopes.

Expect vibrant coral scenery and exceptional biodiversity throughout the day, with the possibility of a night dive revealing Misool’s fascinating nocturnal life.

Day 4

Boo Islands | Magic Mountain

Today’s diving takes place around Warakaraket and Boo Island, home to some of the most iconic sites in Raja Ampat.

At Shadow Reef (Magic Mountain), a submerged ridge rises dramatically from the depths. This cleaning station attracts oceanic manta rays along with grey reef sharks, barracuda and large schools of pelagic fish.

Later we dive Boo Windows, famous for natural rock arches that create beautiful swim-throughs framed by colourful soft corals and schooling fish.

Day 5

Fiabacet & Yilliet | Coral Ridge Systems

This morning we explore the reefs around Fiabacet and Yilliet, where an extensive underwater ridge connects several islands and creates a series of spectacular dive sites.

Expect dense coral growth, massive sea fans and thriving reef systems at sites such as Nudi Rock, Tank Rock and Whale Rock. The area is well known for macro life including pygmy seahorses and nudibranchs, while reef sharks and schooling fish cruise the deeper slopes.

Day 6

Farondi & Wagmab | Caves and Coral Walls

Today we explore the unique underwater landscapes of Farondi and Wagmab, where dramatic cliffs plunge into caverns and tunnels beneath the island.

These dives feature colourful coral gardens, cavern systems and steep walls draped in sea fans. Hidden among the coral heads you may find ghost pipefish, pygmy seahorses and frogfish, while the surrounding reefs teem with reef fish.

In the evening we begin an overnight cruise north toward Penemu.

Day 7

Penemu & Piaynemo | Iconic Lagoons

We arrive in the breathtaking Penemu archipelago, one of the most photographed landscapes in Raja Ampat.

Morning dives include My Reef and Melissa’s Garden, two exceptional reefs with pristine hard corals, sharks and large schools of fish.

In the afternoon we visit the famous Piaynemo viewpoint, climbing the short stairway to a panoramic view over the turquoise lagoons and limestone islets below. Kayaks and paddleboards are available to explore the surrounding lagoons before sunset.

Day 8

Wofo Island | Northern Reefs & Beach BBQ

We continue north to Wofo Island, home to dramatic reef walls and huge black coral forests.

Dives such as Black Forest, Wofo Tembok and Teman Wofo feature spectacular coral formations and rich marine life ranging from reef sharks and trevallies to colourful macro species hidden among the coral.

In the evening we enjoy one of Calico Jack’s signature experiences — a private beach BBQ on a remote island beneath the stars.

Day 9

Gam & Yanggefo | Dampier Strait Action

Today we explore the nutrient-rich waters between Gam and Yanggefo, famous for some of the most exciting diving in Raja Ampat.

Sites such as Mayhem and Citrus Ridge can produce thrilling action when currents run, bringing enormous schools of fusiliers, barracuda and trevallies along with wobbegong sharks and reef sharks.

The day ends anchored in a quiet mangrove bay surrounded by towering limestone islands.

Day 10

Manta Sandy & Arborek Village

Today’s highlight is a dive at Manta Sandy, one of the most reliable manta ray cleaning stations in Raja Ampat.

Watching these graceful giants circle above the cleaning station is one of the most unforgettable experiences in Indonesian diving.

Later we visit Arborek Village, where guests can meet local residents and learn about life in the Raja Ampat islands. A night dive at Arborek Jetty often reveals cuttlefish, pipefish and a wide variety of macro life.

Day 11

Cape Kri & Dampier Strait

Our final diving day takes us to the legendary Cape Kri, famous for holding the world record for the highest number of fish species recorded on a single dive.

Large schools of trevallies, barracuda, sweetlips and snappers gather here, often joined by grey reef sharks and tuna.

After the final dives we relax on one of Kri Island’s white sand beaches before sailing back toward Sorong for our farewell dinner onboard.

Day 12

Disembarkation in Sorong

After breakfast it is time to say farewell to the crew and your fellow travellers.

Transfers will be arranged to Sorong airport or local hotels, marking the end of an unforgettable Raja Ampat expedition aboard Calico Jack.

Getting there

Trip Start
Sorong, West Papua – Indonesia

This expedition begins and ends in Sorong, the main gateway to Raja Ampat.

Guests should plan to arrive at Domine Eduard Osok Airport (SOQ) in Sorong on the morning of Day 1. Our team will meet you at the airport or your hotel and transfer you directly to Calico Jack for embarkation.

Boarding typically takes place before 11:00 am, after which we depart for Raja Ampat.

International Flights

Most international travellers reach Sorong via Jakarta, Bali, or Singapore, connecting onward to Papua with domestic flights.

Typical travel routes include:

International → Jakarta or Bali → Sorong

Major Indonesian airlines including Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Lion Air and Sriwijaya Air operate daily flights to Sorong.

Arrival Tips

Because Sorong is located in eastern Indonesia, many guests choose to arrive one day early and stay overnight in Sorong before the trip.

This allows time to rest after international travel and avoids potential delays with domestic flights.

Airport Transfers

Complimentary transfers are included on the first and final day of your expedition.

Our crew will meet you at Sorong Airport with a Calico Jack sign, assist with luggage, and transfer you to the harbour where the yacht is waiting.

Weather and Sea Conditions

Raja Ampat lies just north of the equator in the heart of the Coral Triangle, giving the region a warm tropical climate year-round.

Daytime temperatures typically range between 28–31°C (82–88°F) with warm evenings and occasional short rain showers. Even during the drier months, brief tropical showers can occur but usually pass quickly.

Because most dive sites are located within island channels and reef systems, sea conditions are often protected and comfortable for liveaboard cruising.

Water Temperature

The ocean temperature in Raja Ampat remains consistently warm throughout the year, typically between 28–30°C (82–86°F).

Most divers are comfortable in a 3mm wetsuit, though some guests prefer a 5mm suit when diving multiple times per day.

Visibility

Visibility in Raja Ampat generally ranges between 15–25 metres, though this can vary depending on tides and plankton levels.

While visibility can fluctuate, the nutrient-rich waters are what support the extraordinary biodiversity that makes Raja Ampat one of the best dive destinations in the world.

Currents

Many dive sites in Raja Ampat are located in channels where currents bring nutrients and attract large schools of fish and pelagic species.

Currents can range from gentle to moderate, particularly in areas such as Dampier Strait, where sites like Cape Kri and Blue Magic are famous for fish action. Our experienced dive guides always conduct current checks before every dive, selecting entry points and timing to ensure safe and enjoyable conditions for all guests.
